There are roughly 110,000 walruses on earth, but their future is threatened from climate change. These vulnerable marine mammals rely on sea ice as rest stops while foraging for mollusks or clams on the ocean floor. With more and more sea ice disappearing each year, walruses are forced onto land in large numbers.
If you want to learn more about walruses check out their classification page on the IUCN Red list of threatened species, documentaries featuring walrus such One Planet, and environmental NGO websites such as WWF Canada.
